Cassette Mallets.01 by THEPHONOLOOP brings worn-tape character to three bell and mallet instruments for an SFZ player. Built from physical modeling and FM synthesis, then recorded through an old cassette recorder, these sounds blend clear, ringing tones with an imperfect vintage finish. Each instrument spans E2–E6 with three velocity layers, making the collection useful for expressive melodies, repeating patterns and atmospheric chord parts. Adjust the sample start to soften the initial strike, or drop the sound an octave for deeper textures. Simulated round-robin adds variation to repeated notes, while reverse and mono modes offer further sound-design options. The samples are denoised to prevent hiss building up across chords, with a separate noise control for adding texture back in. It suits producers seeking playable, cassette-colored mallets for lo-fi beats, ambient tracks and nostalgic electronic music.
