Pendulate is a free monosynth plugin from Newfangled Audio that generates sound using a chaotic oscillator modeled on the physics of a double pendulum. Instead of traditional waveforms, it produces patterns that blend randomness with underlying structure, letting you morph from a pure sine wave into full chaos. The signal path includes a wavefolder inspired by the Buchla 259 (with Mix and Cutoff) and a low-pass gate based on the Buchla 292 (with Poles and Resonance). Every control can be modulated from the main interface, with up to 169 simultaneous routings, and MPE support allows expressive control from compatible controllers. Envelopes and LFOs offer multiple simultaneous outputs, and animated displays show how each module responds to your input and modulation. It ships with 136 presets, including artist patches from Matt Lange and Matthew Wang, and three color schemes. Available in 64-bit VST3, AU, and AAX formats for Windows and macOS, Pendulate requires no iLok. It suits producers of bass music, leads, and gritty textures looking for an unconventional, free synth.
