Martin Lüders PG-8X is a free VST synthesizer for producers who want JX-8P-inspired synthesis in a software instrument. Its panel takes its layout cues from the PG-800 hardware programmer, putting sound-shaping controls directly in view. It suits hobby musicians exploring subtractive synthesis, as well as JX-8P owners who want to work with their existing patches.
The synth offers up to 12 voices and two digitally controlled oscillators with saw, square, pulse and noise options. Hard sync and ring modulation provide additional ways to shape the oscillator sound. Two exponential envelopes, a resonant 24 dB low-pass filter and a three-stage high-pass filter handle contour and tone, while stereo chorus adds width.
Six key assignment modes cover polyphonic, unison and monophonic playing, including an octave-shifted unison option. MIDI Learn lets you assign hardware controllers by right-clicking a slider. PG-8X also imports and exports JX-8P SysEx data for patch exchange with the original instrument. For Windows users, it fits VST-compatible production setups such as FL Studio and Ableton Live.
