Sonic Visualiser 3.0.3 is a free, open-source audio analysis and annotation application for Windows. Rather than functioning as a VST effect or instrument, it provides a separate workspace for examining recordings. It suits hobby producers, musicians and audio technicians who want to study timing, pitch and the structure of a track.
Load files such as WAV, MP3, AIFF, FLAC or Ogg, then inspect individual channels through waveform and spectrogram views. Adjustable zoom and simultaneous views at different time scales let you examine a short passage without losing sight of the whole recording. You can mark events, label sections and stack annotation layers over the audio display.
For closer listening, loop selected passages or slow playback while keeping the visual display synchronized. Feature-extraction plugins can generate annotations using beat-tracking and pitch-detection algorithms. MIDI note data and text-based annotations can also be imported for comparison with the recording.
Audio regions and annotation layers can be exported, making Sonic Visualiser useful alongside a Windows DAW when you need detailed listening notes or visual analysis.
