Pepto Audio DR-84 is a free, sample-based drum instrument for producers who want 1980s drum machine sounds without building a kit from individual samples. Its collection draws on hardware including Linn drum machines, the Roland TR-707, E-MU Drumulator, Oberheim DMX, Yamaha RX11 and Simmons SDSV, making it a useful fit for synthpop, retro electronic music and synthwave projects.

There are 14 kits: six drum machine sets, one electronic drum module kit, four hybrid combinations and three modern synthwave/retrowave kits. Outside the synthwave selection, the samples remain unprocessed, leaving room for your own mixing choices while retaining their original character.

Each drum piece has pitch, trim, pan and volume controls. Built-in reverb and a low-pass filter provide further sound shaping, while a master volume control handles overall level. Multi-output selection lets you route drums separately for mixing in your DAW.

DR-84 is available in 64-bit VST and VST3 formats for Windows and Mac. It suits hobby producers working in compatible hosts such as FL Studio and Ableton Live who need a dedicated retro drum sound source.
