Portatron Preset Pack: Experimental West Coast

Experimental West Coast is a preset pack for Robotic Bean’s Portatron Tape Synthesizer, built entirely from recordings of legendary Buchla modular systems. It captures the spirit of West Coast synthesis with sounds sampled from the 1970s Buchla 200 at Elektronmusikstudion EMS in Stockholm, their smaller 200 system, a 1960s Buchla 100 replica, a modern Buchla/TipTop Audio 200t, and the Buchla Music Easel (208c + LEM218v3). The result is an expansive toolkit of shimmering textures, atmospheric drones, glitchy sequences, and ambient soundscapes. Perfect for experimental producers and sound designers looking to add organic, unpredictable elements to their tracks, this pack works well in electronic, ambient, and film scoring contexts. Whether you’re crafting evolving pads or intricate modular-style sequences, these presets bring the rare character of Buchla instruments to your DAW without the need for hardware.
