PRIPYAT Pianos

PRIPYAT Pianos by Strix Instruments turns recordings of 20 abandoned pianos from the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone into a distinctive virtual instrument. Its weathered tones retain string artefacts and imperfections, offering character for atmospheric compositions, cinematic cues and experimental sound design. The Age control moves between a reconstructed, less deteriorated 1986 sound and the instruments’ condition in 2019, letting you introduce subtle wear or explore more pronounced decay. Convolution reverb adds spaces captured around Pripyat and the Chernobyl power plant, ranging from understated ambience to expansive structural interiors. Each of the 23 presets includes a location photograph, background information and a gamma radiation reading. Suited to producers and composers looking beyond polished studio piano sounds, PRIPYAT Pianos combines playable musical material with an evocative archive of instruments and places altered by time.
