Waldorf Music Microwave 1 is a wavetable synthesizer plug-in that recreates the sound and behavior of the original Microwave hardware. It combines digital wavetable oscillation with modeled analogue filtering, making it useful for weighty bass lines, sharp attacks, evolving textures and soft pads. For producers exploring electronic dance music or the character of late-eighties and nineties synthesis, it offers that approach inside a modern DAW.
The recreation goes beyond the basic synthesis layout. Waldorf modeled the original instrument’s custom ASIC, Curtis filter circuitry and controller behavior to preserve the details that shaped its distinctive sound. Its internal synthesis runs at 250 kHz independently of your project’s sample rate, and the recreated digital waveforms were checked bit by bit against the hardware.
This Windows version is supplied in VST2, VST3 and AAX formats, making it suitable for compatible hosts such as FL Studio and Ableton Live. Microwave 1 is aimed at hobby producers and sound designers who want to explore hardware-inspired wavetable tones without adding a rack synthesizer to their setup.
