AudioGridder is a free utility that lets you run audio plugins on a separate computer over your network, freeing up your main machine’s CPU. It works with VST2, VST3, and AudioUnit plugins (macOS only) and supports both effects and instruments. You install a small server app on a remote Windows or macOS machine, then use the AudioGridder plugin in your DAW to access those remote plugins as if they were local. The remote plugin’s interface is streamed to your screen, and you can control it directly. AudioGridder also handles latency compensation, automation, and 32/64-bit float processing, so it feels much like using the plugin natively. It’s ideal for producers running complex projects or CPU-heavy virtual instruments who need extra processing power without buying new hardware. The plugin runs on Windows 7+ and macOS 10.11+, and the server supports macOS 10.7+ and Windows 7+. Linux 64-bit is supported for the plugin only. Tested in Cubase, Logic Pro X, Reaper, and Ableton Live. A practical solution for hobbyists and professionals alike who want to expand their system’s capabilities.
