TheZhe TheExpressor is a free dynamics effect that combines upward and downward compression and expansion with adjustable tonal character around the threshold. It suits hobby producers who want to shape dynamics in FL Studio, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, or another compatible host without paying for a compressor.
Separate pre-threshold and post-threshold ratios let you adjust how the signal responds on either side of the knee. Attack and release controls set the timing, while Softness smooths the transition. The Color parameter adds or subtracts a bell-shaped curve around the knee, ranging from subtle shaping to pronounced emphasis with up to 24 dB of adjustment.
For more control over the detector, TheExpressor includes an external sidechain input, a high-pass filter, and variable stereo linking. A dry/wet mix supports parallel processing, and makeup gain adjusts the processed level. With makeup set to zero, output is bounded to no more than 6 dB above the input.
Version 1.2.1 supports 64-bit Windows and macOS, including Apple Silicon, with VST3/AU host compatibility. Its low-aliasing design avoids oversampling overhead and added delay.
