Izmar VMPC2000XL is a free sampler and sequencer that recreates the operating experience of the Akai MPC2000XL on your computer. It is aimed at beatmakers and producers who want to explore an MPC-style workflow, including its hardware-era menus and hands-on approach to arranging samples.

Rather than adding vintage coloration, VMPC2000XL focuses on how the original machine works. It does not model the analog signal path, and its per-voice digital filter is an approximation rather than an exact match. Expect a deliberately old-school workflow, not a streamlined modern drum instrument.

You can load and save many MPC2000XL file types, including APS, ALL, PGM and SND, alongside MIDI and WAV files. Multitrack WAV bouncing includes an offline rendering option, while basic MIDI input/output and controller mapping let you integrate external pads or other MIDI hardware.

Available for Windows, macOS and Linux, it runs standalone or in supported VST3, AU and LV2 hosts. Windows users can use VST3 in FL Studio or Ableton Live. Keep backup copies of imported files: the emulator renames files in its working volume, and the documentation warns of possible corruption.
