Retrospect is a free, curve-driven time-warping effect that continuously records incoming audio into a rolling buffer and replays it according to a user-drawn curve. The curve maps real time to read position, so a straight line gives passthrough, flat sections freeze the sound, gentle slopes create slow scrubs and glides, steep slopes produce fast skips and stutters, and downward slopes reverse playback. You can lock the curve to your host’s tempo grid or trigger it on every transient for per-hit warping, and cycle it up to eight times per interval for rapid stutter patterns. A wet-only effects chain adds tanh drive, a state-variable filter (LP/BP/HP), and a bit-depth/sample-rate crusher. Feedback lets you feed the wet signal back for swells and self-oscillation. The freeform editor supports double-click anchors and right-click toggling between smooth Bézier and hard-angle segments, with a live cursor showing the warped read position. It suits hobby producers exploring glitch, IDM, and experimental textures in FL Studio, Ableton, or Logic on Windows, macOS, or Linux.
